A gorgeous 48″ Live Oak tree in the North West corner of the lot frames the view over the marsh. From the Great Room, it feels like you’re in a tree house. Very careful consideration was paid to the tree during the site analysis and during construction. The maple trim throughout and the cypress ceiling in the Great Room bring in the natural, golden hues of the surrounding marshes.
Built for the Climate
The house is oriented to take advantage of prevailing breezes and the view of the sunset. Exposed rafters create a large roof overhang, which shields the house from harsh sun and bad weather. The house is designed to be resilient; it is raised out of the flood plain and designed for hurricane wind loads. In hot, humid, coastal Georgia, the heating and air system is highly efficient and the house is sealed tight.
Outdoor Oasis
The undulating garden wall and vine covered fence provide privacy, as well as a bit of whimsy. Shade sails keep the pool and the deck cool and comfortable. A portion of the outdoor living space can be screened when necessary using motorized, retractable screens. The landscape is lush, and low maintenance, featuring native plants and grasses as well as a rain garden to mitigate storm water runoff.
From the client…
“Jane, Michael and team really listened to our somewhat inarticulate goals. We wanted where modern meets southern, as well as warmth, serenity and a dash of whimsy. Our home does all of that and more.”
